Restaurants That Rock. Centro
August 16, 2008 by admin
So I often like to go downtown and find Centro a great place for a great drink. The food is good too and staff has always been good.
Here’s a little 411 on the place.
The Scene
This lively, colorful establishment is an adventure in high-end Mexican food. Be warned, this place is absolutely packed nearly every evening. A motorcycle hangs from the ceiling and the subdued salsa music underscores the conversation. If you’ve passed by Centro and spied the young, attractive crowd dining outside–and consequently written it off as too trendy–back up and give it a chance.
The Food
Try the popular pescado al mojo de ajo, pan-seared fish of the day with toasted garlic, olive oil and lime juice, served with grilled portobello. Another goodie is the cochinita pibil, an achiote and citrus-marinated pork roasted in banana leaves, served with pickled onions and roasted chilies. Wash it down with an infusion: fruit marinated in tequila for three to four days. This is my favorite drink. ![]()
